Georgios Samaras: In line for return against Ajax

Georgios Samaras, Kris Commons and Michael Lustig have travelled with the remainder of the party and are expected to start the crucial Group H encounter in Amsterdam.

Samaras and Commons have been sidelined with knee and hamstring injuries respectively and will be put through their paces in an evening workout at the Amsterdam ArenA.

And manager Neil Lennon will run the rule over Lustig, who started on the bench in last Saturday's 1-1 draw against Dundee United due to his long-standing hip problem, before finalising his starting line-up.

Skipper Scott Brown is suspended so Beram Kayal, who performed with great distinction against the Dutch champions in the recent 2-1 victory at Parkhead, will again deputise in midfield.

Despite his suspension, assistant manager Johan Mjallby believes Brown's presence in Amsterdam will prove vital for the morale of the travelling squad.

Speaking at Glasgow Airport ahead of their flight, Mjallby said: "All three should be fit. They are in the squad but we will have to wait until tonight when we watch them in training.

"They are very important players for us, and it is looking good for them."

On Brown's inclusion on the trip, Mjallby said: "It's disappointing Scott isn't allowed to play.

"He's our skipper. He's the skipper of the team and he's very important in the

dressing room.

"He's in great form and he has been playing really well for us this season. It's good for us to have a look at him in training as well."

I

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

H

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

Wenger hails important win

I

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
