The 22-year-old has been in sparkling form for the Hoops this term since his £1.6million summer switch from FC Groningen on a long-term deal.

The centre-back's performances have led to speculation linking him with clubs such as Arsenal and Manchester City, while Lennon has also backed the U21 international to earn his first senior cap with the Dutch.

The Celtic boss told the Daily Star: "It's inevitable, if he keeps going and progressing the way he is, that he'll become a Dutch international.

Work ethic

"He makes it look easy. People seem to think he has a laid-back attitude, but his work ethic is very high and he's a kid who wants to get better.

"I'd like to think Virgil would get a chance with his country."

Van Dijk himself feels he does not have much chance of getting into the Dutch squad for this summer's World Cup finals, but he will continue to try and press his claim.

He said: "I have never been invited, so I think the chances are not so big for me.

"That's unfortunate for me, but I have to move on, still play good games. Maybe, you never know, the chance will come."

e made his power play to try and get Sheikhy to raise his wages or trade him to PSG. PSG were probably not interested and he is stuck with no cake and no vacation. @Jay_D> Surely you jest about FFP being real, right? All Platini is doing is making billionaries pay measly fines, so he and his cronies can get rich. If a fool can pay 50 mil for David Luiz, he will happily pay some fine to UEFA. FFP has failed as for it to succeed UEFA had to take it...
