The Greek striker has been with the cub since January 2008, having joined on an initial loan deal from Manchester City before making the move permanent six months later.

He insists that he would have liked to sign a new deal and that boss Neil Lennon had also wanted him to stay, but claims that he will now be on his way out of Celtic after chief executive Peter Lawwell decided not to offer an extension.

Samaras must now consider his future options and he maintains that he has given the subject little thought so far because he hoped he would stay.

"I'm leaving, that's for sure, but it was not my decision. I never had an offer from the club," Samaras said, quoted in the Daily Record.

"I never had an offer from Peter Lawwell.

"I have been seven years at the club and I would have loved to stay. I had a chat with the manager. He would have loved me to stay and I was happy to stay but me and the gaffer don't make the decisions - there are people higher up.

"I have not spoken to any other club. I was waiting to the end to see if they offered me anything but that is the end."

Samaras scored a late penalty in Celtic's 3-1 victory over Dundee United on Sunday after being handed the ball by Kris Commons, and Lennon expects it to be his final goal for the club.

But the Celtic boss appeared to contradict the striker's version of events over his future after the match as he suggested that it was Samaras' decision to leave.

Lennon said: "I would imagine his mind is made up. I wouldn't have thought there would be any negotiations.

"He is going to join up with the Greek World Cup squad pretty soon so I don't know if I will get the chance to see him again.

"It would look that way. It was a nice touch by Kris to give Sami the chance to say goodbye properly.

"We wanted to give him that too.

"I don't think it's any big secret, it doesn't look like he's going to be here next year.

"If he does go he goes with the warmest wishes from the backroom team and players."

ou can't blame De Gea for wanting to leave, he has enough to do in front of goal as it is as well as taking on the role of Man Utd's version of Derek Acorah in trying to contact and organise a defence that isn't there.
