bettyswollocks, the point you have missed is that anyone can pick holes in any clubs history if you really want to be a pr*ck about it. Denigrating Fergusons record is all well and good, but an objective assessment would be a good start. People point to Ferguson's money since he's been at United, but as much as he has spent (and comparative figures will show you there are many clubs who have spent more) he's never been the biggest fish in the pond. You look at Uniteds performances in Europe over the last 20 years, and it's bettered only by a handful of teams, those being Real Madrid, Barcelona and AC Milan. We have been roughly the same as Inter, Bayern, but the rest have been left behind. We've made 4 finals, winning two, and have made the semi's on numerous occassions.

@HarryBoulton....'let's note that two of your five CL wins were on penalties, one after having been hammered by Milan for 120 minutes, and another was a glorious 1-0 victory over the might of Club Brugge of Belgium. Outstanding.'....Oh Harry....what went wrong mate, use'd to consider you to be one of (admittedly) the few man u supporters who actually knew your footballing history....your turning into 'fishcake' mate!....and that is the lowest comment i could make......if you ever bother to look up the Club Brugge team from that era (EUFA Cup final as well) a 'real' football fan would know they had one hell of a team.......these comments have nothing 'to do' with how many we have won....its 'to do' with how many 'baconface' has won, when lets face it, with the resources (money) he should have won more, even he admits it!......

@yayared....That might sound a lot less bitter if you weren't on a United page regarding a competition you can no longer qualify for since it actually became difficult....cant see Forest or Villa winning it now can you? And when was the last time Brugge made a final? Oh and its 2-1 these days chap, the Champions League is a totally different competition, sorry to break it to you.

@rcurisk25" we utterly outclassed real in the first half" wait what? are u for real? if u want to know what "to utterly outclass" means watch the 2009 cl game btw madrid and liverpool. 4-0 at home and 5-0 aggregate. and the less said about fishcake the better. what a brave idiot you are. winning from 3-0 down against one of the strongest milan side ever with the likes of djimi traore eh. thats called determination and will. not like your pathetic team who collapsed after one adverse decision in a life time goes against it. and roy keane has spot on blame the team not the referee.and you know what you are a wee club in europe. 5 times eh!!!

@Gab....another post, again ignoring the actual facts. Fergie currently has the best record of an manager in Europe and the second best record of ALL time....yet the Pool fan thinks his record is 'dire' Perhaps if he had only needed to play 4 rounds to reach the final and then play the mighty Brugge or Gladbach...he'd have won a few more....even the Madrid team they played wasn't a patch on todays team. Totally outclassed by the greatest club side ever, so we were second best team in the world, no disgrace in that.....how have Liverpool got on since the competition became challenging? Both his wins were 'lucky'? Oh yeah, like 99 when we had the hardest group and run to the final probably ever, as well as lifting the Prem and FA Cup whilst 08 we knocked out the team that 'outclassed' us in later finals before beating Chelsea who got back into the game through a fluke goal and finished below us in the league, that we won! I suppose finishing 5th and winning the EC from 0-3 down wasn't a fluke then? United backed our EC's up....Pool didn't.
