Pearson: Nobody's place is guaranteed

Pearson dropped skipper Matt Mills and fellow defender Paul Konchesky for the FA Cup tie against Norwich at Carrow Road at the weekend.

Mills was replaced at the heart of defence by recent signing Wes Morgan, with midfielder Richie Wellens taking over the captain's armband. Konchesky was replaced by Tom Kennedy at left-back.

Pearson freshened up his side following the disappointing league defeat at Watford last Tuesday night and saw his new-look team beat the Canaries to reach the sixth round of the cup.

"I decided to freshen things up and I don't think that is a bad thing for the squad. Places are up for grabs and I decided to make one or two changes," said Pearson.

"I think it is important to keep people on their toes and to give players opportunities to show what they can do, and Wes had a good game. It was a good game for them to come into. The whole of the back four were very busy because of the way Norwich play, but they coped very well."
