The 24-year-old defender, sidelined with a serious knee injury since the end of March, played the final 29 minutes against Peterborough on Tuesday.

Hobbs suffered cruciate ligament damage in his right knee during Hull's 2-0 home defeat to Coventry towards the end of last season and was ruled out for nine months following surgery.

The former Liverpool and Leicester centre-half, an ever-present in the Championship last season until injury struck, has yet to appear under current boss Steve Bruce, but is ahead of schedule and could step up his comeback with a reserve-team run-out against Gateshead next Wednesday.

Hobbs started out as a trainee at Lincoln before signing for Liverpool in 2005, but made only five appearances for the Merseysiders and moved on to Leicester following an initial loan spell four years later.

He made over 100 appearances for Leicester and joined Hull on loan in February 2011 before securing a permanent £850,000 move to the KC Stadium the following June.
