Dexter Blackstock: Nottingham Forest striker will see his current contract expir

Blackstock is one of seven City Ground squad members who will see their current terms expire in the summer and is keen for discussions over extending his stay to get under way.

The former Southampton and QPR forward fears an end-of-season exodus could occur if the Championship side leave negotiations until the end of the campaign.

Blackstock said: "If you do that you run the risk of losing players.

"We've lost some very good players over the last three years who would still be playing in the team - players like Garath McCleary, Wes Morgan and Kris Commons.

"I've loved every moment being at Nottingham Forest. The club's close to me and that will never change. If someone wants to talk I'm more than happy to do so."

Forest boss Sean O'Driscoll admits he is also keen for talks to commence, but believes that having a number of players coming to the end of their deals each summer is now a necessary evil of the modern game.

O'Driscoll added: "The way football's going no-one gets long contracts so each year you have five or six coming out of contract.

"It's a situation we are aware of and want to resolve as quickly as possible."
