Chris Powell: Full of praise for defender

Former Tottenham youngster Dervite was pitched in alongside Leon Cort at centre-half with Michael Morrison suspended.

And the 24-year-old hardly put a foot wrong as the Addicks battled to a goalless draw at their in-form south London rivals.

"Leon and Dorian Dervite were up against Chris Wood and Andy Keogh, who are a very good partnership and doing very well at present," said Powell.

"Dorian Dervite hasn't been in the side for a while, and last time he was in the team he was playing as a defensive shield.

"He knew he was going to play because Michael Morrison was suspended and I felt his positioning and his decision making just got better as the game went on.

"He mopped up a lot of things and that always shows the mark of a good player. You are not always talking about speed and pace - speed of thought is always the number one asset, especially for a defender, because then you get yourself in the right place and you can read the play.

"I felt Leon Cort and Dorian did that tremendously well and I'm very pleased with the players alongside them."
