Dean Saunders: Happy with away point at Sheffield Wednesday

Dean Saunders: Happy with away point at Sheffield Wednesday

Saunders, who was left still in search of his first win as Wolves manager on Saturday, was happy to gain a point away from home in a game dominated by the hosts.

"It's a great point away from home," Saunders said. "It's a clean sheet.

"It was difficult to play against them. They just bombarded long balls. They missed a few half-chances. But we coped well and showed spirit and determination."

Wolves have had a positive start to Saunders' reign and today's stalemate means they are now seven points clear of the danger zone.

"I'm getting a clearer picture of what we need to do well in this league," Saunders added. "I don't think there's major surgery needed. We just need a bit of tinkering around.

"Two games and we've let in just one goal so it's the start I wanted. This will give us some belief after the last away game (FA Cup defeat to Luton).

"I thought Ebanks-Blake looked dangerous. He looked as if he could get a goal for us. Obviously Kevin Doyle is an international, so we have some good players, and they just lack a bit of belief and confidence.

"If we get a couple of wins, it will be good. It might see players play like they should."

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

I

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
