A statement released to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange by City's parent company revealed the consortium is being fronted by an unnamed sports management company.

Further discussions are planned as acting chairman Peter Pannu continues to seek potential new owners.

The statement from Birmingham International Holdings Limited read: "The company has been formally approached on 23 January and 31 January by a sports management company who has indicated that it will be able to lead a consortium which will consider the purchase of Birmingham City Football Club.

"The company's lawyers are currently in contact with the interested party with

the view to clarifying matters of this approach.

"The company will make further announcements on the future developments in relation to the above proposed transaction as and when appropriate."

Last year's interest from Gianni Paladini's Italian-backed consortium failed to yield a takeover, and Birmingham's ongoing financial problems influenced the sale of goalkeeper Jack Butland to Stoke on deadline day.
