Clark eyes back-to-back wins

Birmingham boss Lee Clark believes a two-match winning run will propel his side up the table amid what is a "crazy" Championship.

Lee Clark: Searching for back-to-back wins in the Championship

Blues had to settle for a 1-1 draw at home to Blackpool on Tuesday night and now sit 18th in the standings - five points above the relegation zone but just three points off a place in the top half of the table.

Clark's side have lost just twice in their last 10 league matches, going down 4-0 against Watford and 5-2 last weekend at fellow promotion chasers Hull, who were in turn beaten 4-2 themselves by Crystal Palace in midweek.

"It's a crazy league, honestly it is," Clark said. "You can't predict any result in this division.

"It's just about getting a couple of wins on the bounce, you take six points from six, it does unbelievable things for you in terms of where you go in the table. We've got to keep going, we've had two defeats in 10 and they were against Watford and Hull.

"I still stick by the fact that the game against Watford was finished because they were more clinical than us, yes we got a good turning over at Hull by a good side. Look at what happens to them at Crystal Palace, it's mad."

Wade Elliott passed up a glorious chance to snatch all three points for Blues in the 87th minute against Blackpool, somehow blazing over his shot from six yards with the goal at his mercy although the ball may possibly have taken a slight bobble.

But Clark is hoping the midfielder, who has six goals to his name this season, finds himself in exactly the same spot against Derby at St Andrew's this weekend.

"We'll expect him to score but he'll never be criticised by me or anybody in the dressing room," Clark added. "I want him on Saturday to be in the same position to miss the same chance, because I know the next 1,000 times he has that opportunity on the training pitch or in matches he'll just tap it in."
