A heated discussion with Ikeme during the half-time interval against Bristol City resulted in the goalkeeper punching the tactics board.

Ikeme is now expected to miss the rest of the season, along with Bakary Sako (hamstring) and Dave Edwards (foot), but the Wolves manager is not regretting the episode.

He told the Birmingham Mail: "A pat on the back from me is the same as a rollicking. There's nothing new in that.

"Now and again as a manager, you let the team know what you're thinking to try to put it right.

"It wasn't kicking off - I just said a few choice words like I normally do. What happened happens 10 times a season."

Phil Hayward, head of Wolves' medical team, has confirmed the extent of Ikeme's injury along with details of Sako and Edwards' problems.

He told the club's official website: "Bakary will be sidelined for six to eight weeks. Dave is due to see a consultant early this week.

"Carl has undergone surgery on his broken hand. As with the other two, it is going to be difficult for him to feature again this season."

he 'where does it end' argument is an absurd one and completely misses the point of the Rooney Rule, which applies to all minorities. It doesn't force any team to appoint anyone, it merely requires them to interview at least one minority candidate.
