The Hornets have graced the top flight in the past, but know returning to that level is all that matters this season.

Gianfranco Zola has his side well placed to push for promotion, with four points separating them from a top-two standing in the Championship.

Watford will get the opportunity to close that gap on Tuesday when they take in a crucial trip to second-placed Hull City, and Doyley admits games do not come much bigger.

He said: "I can't remember us having such big games. I have played in play-offs, which are huge, but this feels as big.

"The fact that you can knock out a promotion rival or two if things go well just proves that. We want to finish in the top two and we reckon we can get there.

"It is within our hands and that is the important thing.

"There's seven more games and we know what we have to do.

"This is the most exciting time I have been involved in here. We have ambitious owners and a really strong squad who are going places. We just need to make sure we are focused and firing."

was there, it was embarrassing - the team looked totally unbalanced from the off, the defence was woeful and when Mikel came off injured it got even worse with nobody in front of them. reat to see Tommy Rosicky getting some love. A wonderful player. Such a pity we lost so long to injury. I was so excited when we signed him, this resurgence only makes the absences seem more of a lost opportunity.
