Two goals and a run of impressive displays ensured the Whites went four games unbeaten at the beginning of March as the 19-year-old enhanced his ever-growing reputation at full-back.

Having only made his first-team debut under previous manager Neil Warnock in a Capital One Cup clash at the beginning of this season, Byram spoke conservatively about his accolade.

"Overall, I'm happy with my form this season," the defender admitted. "I've made a few mistakes but learnt and got better from them. I am looking to improve."

Leeds manager Brian McDermott had nothing but praise for Byram's displays despite having only worked with him for a few weeks.

"First and foremost he is a really good person who wants to learn and get better," the former Reading manager confirmed.

"Sam is not one to sit back on his laurels - he has got potential, he is keen to learn and I'm sure he'll go on to fulfil it."

icky van Wolfswinkel's remarkable record of one goal from one game at least deserves an honourable mention. And I'm willing to bet that at least one of Costa, Ulloa or Enner Valencia will earn a place on the list by the end of the season. Probably not Costa
