The 19-year-old right-back arrived at St Andrew's on non-contract terms last summer having risen through the ranks in Everton's Academy.

Higgins quickly made an impression for the club's Under-21 side and was handed a first-team squad number in January, although he is yet to make his senior debut for the club.

He has penned a one-year deal with the option of a further 12 months.
