The Spaniard has inherited the coaching reins at the Amex Stadium from Gus Poyet and is hoping to build on a productive 2012/13 campaign which saw the Seagulls finish fourth in the Championship.

The 40-year-old former Barcelona midfielder is taking in his first spell in English football and concedes that he will be looking to put his own stamp on things.

Part of that process will be bringing in players he feels can significantly aid the cause.

Garcia feels he may need a handful of signings in order to put Brighton back among the promotion challengers and says he will be spreading the transfer net far and wide in his pursuit of fresh faces.

He said: "We are missing four or five very good players and for sure we will look for replacements for them. We will try to pick the correct players to continue improving the team.

"I don't want to see the passport of the players, I want to judge them on their performances. The best players or the best choices for us will be the first XI, and each week we can change the first XI.

"It depends on how they are training, how they are playing and how we want to win the games.

"We have to see how we can punish the opposition. Our job is to choose the best XI to win every game."

ou can't blame De Gea for wanting to leave, he has enough to do in front of goal as it is as well as taking on the role of Man Utd's version of Derek Acorah in trying to contact and organise a defence that isn't there.
