The Seasiders agreed a deal with Premier League new boys Cardiff City earlier in the summer, but Thomas opted against a switch to South Wales.

Ince senior is delighted to have his most prized asset still on the books at Bloomfield Road, with the club short on numbers following a frustrating summer transfer window.

He is, however, aware that Thomas will move on at some point in the future - with the England U21 international considered to be one of the Championship's top talents.

It is important, though, that the 21-year-old winger holds out for the right move, with regular game time vital if he is to fulfil his undoubted potential.

Ince told Sky Sports News: "What I wouldn't want Thomas to do is to go to a club and then spend a lot of time on the bench, as that would hamper his development.

"Whenever he does go, and whatever club he goes to, he needs to be playing football and his development needs to be taken forward.

"Look at Scott Sinclair when he left Swansea and went to Manchester City, he hasn't played for two years. That won't happen to Thomas."

Thomas, who has been out of action with a groin injury since netting on the opening day of the new season at Doncaster Rovers, is aware of the need to be patient and has no regrets at having spurned the opportunity to step up into the top flight with Cardiff.

He said: "I went down to Cardiff and Malky (Mackay) was excellent. I have got great respect for Malky and Cardiff City and I hope they stay in the Premier League this year, they are a fantastic club.

"I went down and had a look myself. But my family is in the North West and it was solely down to I didn't think it was the right time and right move for me."
