The right-back limped off in the first half of Saturday's 1-1 home draw against Ipswich and scans have since revealed he has ruptured his medial ligament and suffered a partial tear to his anterior cruciate ligament.

Eardley, who now requires surgery, was making only his seventh appearance for Blues since arriving over the summer from Blackpool on a three-year deal.

The setback makes manager Lee Clark's deadline-day signing of Paul Caddis from Swindon an even more important capture.

Caddis, who also operates at right-back, enjoyed a successful season-long loan at St Andrew's last term and was a key summer target for Clark, who had looked to have missed out due to financial constraints at the Midlands club before securing a late move for his services.

t's why Mourinho is so successful. He gives players a specific, limited set of functions to perform. They are but a cog in a machine. Do no more, do no less. I assume he learnt it from LvG :)

really hope that someone in the mainstream media spots that the Bayern manager played for and managed Barcelona quite well, and thinks to mention it in the build up. That would be really interesting.
