Sam Vokes: Netted as Burnley ran away 2-1 victors at Elland Road on Saturday

The Wales international netted his fourth goal of the season on Saturday as Burnley beat Leeds United 2-1 at Elland Road to move into second in the Championship.

Vokes has developed a strong bond with fellow striker Danny Ings and 11 goals between the pairing have softened the blow following Austin's summer switch to Queens Park Rangers.

During his two-year spell at Burnley, Austin scored a goal every other game but 23-year-old Vokes insists there is no cause for concern when it comes to finding the net.

"Charlie going meant a chance for me to start playing," he said. "He was a fantastic goal scorer so there were always going to be questions asked of the other strikers and whether they could step up.

"I like to think we've started off well and I feel like I've got a good partnership with Danny [Ings].

"We've known each other for years and we understand each other's play. Going into every game we feel comfortable.

"It's started off well for us even though in pre-season we didn't play a lot together because Charlie was still here but we seem to have formed a partnership now."

Next on the agenda for Vokes is a Capital One Cup clash against Nottingham Forest at Turf Moor on Wednesday.

I

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

I

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
