The Trotters' winless start to the new campaign extended into double figures following the 0-0 draw with Blackpool - a contest which Freedman made a quintet of changes for.

Joining him on the bench were the likes of former Manchester United midfielder Chris Eagles, ex-Liverpool striker David Ngog and South Korea international Chung-Yong Lee, who was not starting a Wanderers game for the first time since Boxing Day.

While seeing those names among the replacements may have come as a surprise to some fans, Freedman - who brought Neil Danns, Liam Feeney and Kevin McNaughton in on loan deals last week - insisted it was merely to cope with the demands of three games in eight days.

"We're a team and we're very fortunate that the club and owner gave me the licence to bring in a few loans last week," he said.

"There's a lot of games and everybody's going to be used.

"It's not a case of getting dropped, that's why managers use it (rotation). We have three games in a week. The intensity they play with these days, you've really got to be smart in your rotation."

ven if United were to sign CR7 & Messi to play upfront, the fact remains Fletcher and Cleverly are playing in midfield. That's where the problem is. Fletcher is too slow with an awful pass, while Cleverly is simply rubbish
