David Dunn: Feels Blackburn should strengthen squad in January

Rovers boss Gary Bowyer met with the club's owners recently and stressed that hanging onto star striker Jordan Rhodes in the winter window is vital if the club are to push for a top-six spot.

And Dunn, who returned from injury in Saturday's 3-0 defeat to Brighton, feels they should be looking to strengthen the playing pool in the New Year.

Blackburn are currently 13th in the Sky Bet Championship table - but are just five points behind sixth-placed Reading heading into the international break.

Dunn is confident the injection of some new blood could kick-start a push for the Premier League, and he told the Lancashire Telegraph: "I think we've got to add quality.

"I know that it's a difficult job to convince players to come to the Championship, maybe from the Premier League.

"But if we can add two quality players to our ranks then I'm sure we can push for promotion.

"We need a little bit of cover in a couple of positions and it will be up to the manager to decide which positions that need strengthening.

"The competition for places is getting very strong, everyone is coming back to fitness barring a couple, and hopefully we can push on."

January shopping may be the last thing on the Rovers owners' minds after the club posted a £36.5m loss for last season.

Being a Rovers fan himself, 33-year-old Dunn admits he was alarmed by the news - but insists the players have got to keep their focus on matters on the pitch, not off it.

He added: "As long as we can produce our performances and get three points on a Saturday I don't think it can be a big concern for us.

"We can only affect what we do on the pitch and there's no real point in wasting energy on things off the pitch.

"It's a little bit difficult for myself because I'm getting a bit older now and I'm a Blackburn fan.

"So obviously it's a little bit different for myself but I think it's important not to get too attached to things off the pitch and concentrate on things on the pitch.

"It is difficult enough already to get results in this league rather than concentrating on things you can't have an effect on."

I

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

H

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
