Sean Dyche: Burnley manager admits loan window disappointment

The Championship leaders failed to add to their squad before the window slammed shut on Thursday night.

Dyche concedes that it would have been good for his side's promotion chances if he could have made a few signings, but insists that he has faith in his current players.

"It's been a tough one for us, we've had a few challenges," the Lancashire Telegraph quotes him as saying.

"The obvious one is being at the top of the league. Let's just say some clubs are not as forthcoming in lending you players because they don't want us to strengthen, which I understand.

"They think we're realistic in what we're doing whereas earlier in the season they might have thought 'good old Burnley having a go, doing all right', now we're 16 games in and we're still doing it so maybe that's changed the outlook for other teams.

"It's been tough leading to the deadline. Everyone knows the main department we need to affect other than strength in depth is the striker department.

"But within that there are challenges and when you've got two hot strikers like we have most players who go on loan, compared to an actual signing, they want to play.

"I'm very honest with players and the message goes through that they're not going to start immediately because the two boys are flying. That's one challenge to it.

"Another is a financial one, certain players we've asked about have been out of our financial boundaries, and considerably, particularly when you look at the Premier League market.

"And the main one is they have to fit and supplement the group and be of value to the group. There are a number of different circumstances which make it a challenge.

"There are that many things in the melting pot to align it just makes it that bit more difficult. It is a mixture of circumstances."

e was right to leave, but not just because of the money City were coming into. If I remember rightly he had a reasonable amount of chances to shine at City, but he never passed the bloody ball. Loads of aimless dribbles and 40 yard shots and not much else. I would say that if he had learnt to be a bit more of a team player he may have done better at City.
