The Valley: Celebrating 20 years

On December 5 1992 Colin Walsh scored the only goal, in the seventh minute, as Charlton beat Portsmouth 1-0 in their first match back at their spiritual home following a seven-year absence.

Manager Chris Powell has given his backing to the idea, and said: "I think I will join in.

"It is a mark of respect for the team on that day and for Colin Walsh. The signs are forever up there in the north stand with regards to Colin Walsh and 3.07pm and I think it is superb.

"I hope that everybody joins in and over the 90 minutes we can do ourselves proud, do the team proud and do the club proud out of respect to what happened 20 years ago.

"It will be a real mark of respect to all the supporters that worked so hard all those years back in getting our club back to its rightful home.

"It is a fitting game against Brighton, a club who have been through a similar scenario to us and they are now in their new stadium and back in their home town.

"It is great for the two clubs, but more importantly for us that we are back home and playing at a wonderful arena and looking to get three points in our Championship season."
