The 25-year-old, who is among a host of Addicks players who will be out of contract next summer, scored a wonder goal in Tuesday's 2-0 win over Doncaster to boost his chances of a new deal.
"A lot of the lads are in the same boat but we have the rest of the season to sort that out," said Stephens.
"I just hope we can get something sorted, hopefully before the end of the year.
"Everybody is playing for a new deal and the higher we finish this year the more people will get contracts."
Boss Chris Powell recently admitted the contract uncertainty is a cause for concern, but Stephens says it is not affecting the players' performances.
"It's nice to have a bit of security," he added. "But at the same time it keeps you on your toes as well, you don't want to get too relaxed during the season, you want to perform in every game."
