m curious as to what image Real Madrid are trying to re-establish as I always thought their pre-Jose image was one of a bunch of a classless bullies tapping up whoever they wanted while living it large on borrowed money they're never going to pay back.

Brings me back to that old point about people being paid a yearly salary each week to run around for 90 minutes. You'd think that kind of coin might buy some endurance? Maybe a little work ethic? I'm massively unfit and slightly spherical, but if you pay me 20k a week I'll do 90 minutes of football every day and say "thank you" at the end through sweaty tears.
