Cech: We'll speak our minds

Goalkeeper Petr Cech insists Chelsea players will continue to speak their minds as they look to get back to the top of the tree.

Petr Cech: Defends right to express opinions

Player power has been blamed for many of the Blues' ills in recent years, including last season's departure of manager Andre Villas-Boas, now having notable success with Tottenham.

With current boss Rafa Benitez now under scrutiny, Cech believes it is important the players continue to have their say.

"We have had a lot of success thanks to the honesty and open mind everyone has in the dressing room," he said.

"Everyone should have a chance to express an opinion and if the players are not happy it's never been a case of saying, 'unlucky mate, you just pick yourself up and we will carry on'.

"If someone is not happy we try to find solutions. When we see something is going wrong, people have the right to express themselves and say what they think needs to be improved."

He added: "But, obviously, we have only one boss and that's the manager.

"So it is up to him if he wants to listen to what the players say or find his own way to go."

Cech also defended the Chelsea's record in sacking managers.

Interim boss Benitez is the 10th man to hold the position in the Russian's time at the club and if some reports are to be believed, the incumbent is far from secure in his position.

But Cech said: "In the last nine years we have won more or less the same number of trophies as Manchester United.

"They have had one manager in that time - we have had eight.

"Arsenal have had the same manager and they haven't won anything for a long time.

"Maybe if you asked them they might say they would rather have had 10 managers and six trophies, I don't know. We do it our way, other clubs do it their way.

"It seems to have worked for us so far so long may it continue."

On a kind of (not) related subject... why is it that Abramovich is always called 'Roman' by both Chelsea supporters and supporters of other clubs? Not criticising Synergy as I've done it myself in the past but it's begun to kind of strike me as a bit strange you know... 'Roman', a bit matey, a bit blokey... 'Roman me old buddy'... thing is, can you actually think of anyone, in the world, who by their apparent demenour and actions gives off a less approachable / matey air than he does... except possibly Blofeld, maybe? Or Kim Jong Un? I'm thinking of starting a gentle and very civilized campaign on here to get everyone to refer to him simply as 'Abramovich' until he agrees to stop making our - whoops, sorry, 'his' - club look like a borderline sociopathic, corporate manager crusher or even just till he agrees to say something. Anything actually. A second thought struck me that maybe everyone's calling him 'Roman' ironically and I'm the only one who hasn't been told... Sigh... it was never this difficult when John Neal was in charge :-)

m curious as to what image Real Madrid are trying to re-establish as I always thought their pre-Jose image was one of a bunch of a classless bullies tapping up whoever they wanted while living it large on borrowed money they're never going to pay back.
