The left-back, currently on loan at Aston Villa, made his Chelsea bow in the 2012 Champions League final which saw the Blues beat Bayern Munich on penalties in a night of high drama in Germany.

However, England international Bertrand believes he is ready to return to his parent club and make a name for himself in the Premier League and earn more international honours.

Liverpool expressed interest in the defender last summer, but after being persuaded to stay by Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, Bertrand is eager to hold talks over his future at Stamford Bridge.

Ready

"I'll go back to Chelsea in the summer and if they want me to play then that would be great," he told the Daily Mirror. "Should it be other options, I suppose the ball is in their court.

"It's something we'll sit down and talk about in the summer. At this stage in my career I need to be playing. I don't want to be sat on the bench next season, so that is something we will discuss in the summer.

"For me personally I feel I'm more than ready. I deserve the chance to play there consistently, having had the experiences that I have done under numerous managers."

Bertrand believes playing alongside the likes of Didier Drogba, John Terry, Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole has prepared him for life in the top flight and is keen to establish himself as a first-team regular.

"I've learnt from some of the best players at the highest level," he added. "The likes of Didier, JT, Lamps, Ash directly in my position. I feel it's my time. I'm 24, I'm looking forward to getting settled for the first time.

"I've had a taste of what it's like to be at the top, to win things. I've won the Champions League already. I've played for England a couple of times, in a crucial qualifying game (against Ukraine) as well.

"Playing for your country is the pinnacle. To have that side of success and know what it takes, that's where I want to be, what I want to get more of."

Pursuit

While keen to treasure memories of claiming a Champions League winner's medal in Munich, Bertrand refuses to become complacent as he seeks further success.

"The Champions League final is something I don't want people to forget, I've played at the highest level, had success at the highest level," he said.

"But, personally, I don't want to rest on my laurels, I've got the taste for it and it's something I want to actively pursue it. I want to get the taste for it again."

Bertrand, who has two England caps to his name, is patriotic about representing his country on the international stage but is backing Chelsea full-back Cole to make Roy Hodgson's World Cup squad.

"I'd pick Ash [for the World Cup]. He's tried and tested. Sometimes I think we should value and respect our national team more. Realise this is the pinnacle for our country in football.

"The Champions League is the pinnacle of club football; England more for the boyhood dream. I remember playing at Wembley, the old Twin Towers, for Gillingham in a six-a-side game as a kid."

I

think all those names linked to United exits make sense. Kagawa has never really looked like hitting the form he had at Dortmund and Fellaini is radioactive after last season (even though I think he's been unfairly singled out for criticism). Nani and Anderson have had more than their fair share of chances so they are done, and Hernandez deserves better than warming a bench.
