The Ivory Coast striker is back at Stamford Bridge two seasons after leaving for Shanghai Shenhua, and then Galatasaray, on a high with victory in the 2012 Champions League final.

His penalty saw the Blues crowned champions of Europe and he is confident the combination of ability and experience in Jose Mourinho's current squad can fire them back to the top in the Premier League and beyond.

"It's amazing to be back, a great feeling," Drogba told the club's website. "I'm happy to be back here and I'm looking forward to seeing the best fans.

"It was an easy decision to make, it's very difficult to say no to Jose and to Chelsea. I have so many good memories with the club so when the opportunity came up it was easy for me.

"He said to me that a player like me, who has history with the club, should come back one day.

"He said I have to come back and I agree with him because, even if I left, I was still a Chelsea player because of the eight years I spent here. No offence to the teams I was with during those two years but that’s just the way it is.

"He's the one who gave me a chance to play in the Premier League. We won so many trophies together and so many matches on the pitch. His relationship is not only with me, it's with all the players who were here from the beginning of the story. It's quite emotional but the most important thing is that we want to win, win, win.

"I think the best thing I can bring to this club and team will be to stay the same as I was during my first spell here. I don't have to change, everybody knows my character, my attitude and my mentality.

"They know if I'm here it's not just to smile and thank people for welcoming me back. I want to win, I want to share my desire and will to win games. The squad is young but to get the best results you have to push yourself."

he uber commercialisation of the 90s has led to the point where this overly familar, try hard, jolly hockey sticks type fronts up a major football match on a weekly basis. Unlike the great presenters of yesteryear, I doubt he would even recognise the scent of Brut.

onfirmed. Nick Miller is a douche bag. Lazy, incoherent rant is what this article should be titled. And for the editor to have the temerity to pass this as acceptable writing is shocking. Ah well, anything for clicks right? You got mine. Well done. Your mother must be proud.
