Coppell, currently director of football at Crawley, has been linked with the vacant managerial job at Selhurst Park in what would be his fifth stint in charge of the Eagles.
Palace are on the hunt for a new boss after Dougie Freedman left to take over at Bolton this week.
Parish has spoken with 57-year-old Coppell but does not feel he fits the mould of what Palace are looking for.
He told The Sun: "I've had a chat to Steve, who has been incredibly helpful.
"But it's a different game to when he was last in charge and people tend to go for younger managers.
"We need someone who is hungry and enthusiastic. We want an experienced young boss but not a first-timer like Dougie."
