The 30-year-old midfielder was expected to form part of a Loftus Road exodus this summer, following the club's relegation out of the Premier League and the fact that he spent last season on loan in France with Marseille.

He has, however, been welcomed back into the QPR fold by Harry Redknapp and has opened the 2013/14 in impressive fashion.

A step up back into the top flight has not been entirely ruled out, with Everton still reported to be keen on securing the services of a lifelong Toffees supporter.

Barton will, however, not be moving to Selhurst Park - despite Ian Holloway's best efforts.

Palace are doing their utmost to get much-needed fresh faces on board, as they attempt to consolidate a standing back among the elite, but Barton is the latest target to slip through the net.

He posted on Twitter: "They tried but its not the right move for me and my family right now.

"Hope they stay up as I like Holloway."

ah, Fergie is just having another pop at Rooney. He just wants to put him down whenever he gets a chance. Rooney is by far the best English player. Carrick is not far behind, mind. However, by elevating Carrick like that, Sir is having a dig at Wayne. Fergie is well-known for mind games like that. Good to see he's still feisty.
