Holloway hails Palace spirit

Ian Holloway was delighted with Crystal Palace's showing against Sunderland and confirmed the signings of Jack Hunt and Jimmy Kebe.

The Eagles collected their first points of the season at Selhurst Park on Saturday, with Danny Gabbidon, Dwight Gayle and Stuart O'Keefe getting the goals in a 3-1 win.

Holloway felt his side displayed the kind of battling qualities required to compete at a Premier League level - especially after Steven Fletcher levelled matters midway through the second half - and hopes a few more additions before deadline day will make them even more competitive.

He told Sky Sports: "It was fantastic. We showed great character and no mean skill as well. I was really pleased with the overall performance.

"I thought we gave a great account of ourselves against Tottenham (in the) first game, and they can rip people to shreds. We limited them to three chances, and one of those was a penalty - with the squad that they have got.

"Against Stoke, in the first half we were as good as that, in the second half we made a couple of mistakes and got slaughtered for it.

"The lads have come back fighting and buzzing. If you look at (Marouane) Chamakh's effort today, it proves to everybody that he wants to work for us, and he isn't even fit yet.

"I'm absolutely delighted for the boys. We thoroughly deserved it and for Stewie O'Keefe to come off the bench and hit that one with his left foot, it's a little bit of a dream for me."

He added: "The chairman and I have been working so hard to bring some more people in. I think we have got two done today and hopefully we'll get another three or four done because we need to get some strength in depth to help these boys.

"I won't block youth either because to see Jonny Williams and Stewie O'Keefe coming on, that's the Palace way."

Holloway confirmed that the deals done on Saturday were for Huddersfield Town right-back Hunt and Reading winger Kebe.

He said: "Jack Hunt, right-back, and Jimmy Kebe. Hopefully by Monday we might have three or maybe even four."

I

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

H

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

I

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
