Nigel Clough: Believes winger Michael Jacobs is adjusting well to life in the Ch

Jacobs made the step up from League Two football when he joined the Rams from Northampton in the summer.

However, he had to wait until October 23 - a 2-1 win at Ipswich - to make his first league start for Derby, but the 21-year-old is now making a big impression, having started the last eight matches and scoring his first goal for the club in Friday night's 2-1 home defeat to Hull.

Clough feels Jacobs is beginning to have a greater influence in games and believes the winger will continue to improve during the second half of the season.

"Michael is growing and improving with every game and we are really pleased with how he is progressing," said Clough.

"He is adapting to life in the Championship with every game.

"Although he had played regularly at Northampton in the last few years, stepping up two leagues at the age of 20 is a big thing and we were mindful of that so he had to be patient in terms of waiting for his chance.

"But he's took on board the things we've been saying to him and he's taken his chance. He's had a good run in the side over the last few weeks and it looks as if he's finding his feet in the league now.

"He's had an impact down the left-hand side and we are very happy with the progress we're seeing from him, which I think we'll see more of in the second half of the season."
