The Rams are in the market for new recruits, and feel their back line could do with strengthening.

A long list of names have been offered up as potential targets, but no deals have been struck as yet.

Clough concedes that he will continue to press ahead with his bid to land fresh faces, but insists he is unfazed by a lack of early summer activity.

He said in the Derby Telegraph: "We're coming at it from a position of strength, because we've got (Richard) Keogh and (Jake) Buxton, who have proved themselves to be a more than adequate centre-half pairing.

"We've got Mark O'Brien coming back from injury around September time and, we hope, Shaun Barker not too far behind him.

"We've also got Valentin Gjokaj, who deputised a couple of times last season and didn't let us down, even though he wasn't even playing in his usual position.

"John Brayford can also play at centre-half, with Kieron Freeman going to right-back, so we're not sweating on it at all."

No panic

He added: "We're looking at all sorts, really.

"We're looking at experienced players, we're looking at younger players on loan but the main criteria is that they have to be at least as good as what we've got, if not better, so they can be challenging for a starting place.

"We've got to get a better centre-half than Jake, which will not be easy. So we're certainly not panicking about it and we'll see what comes up over the next few weeks."

ven if United were to sign CR7 & Messi to play upfront, the fact remains Fletcher and Cleverly are playing in midfield. That's where the problem is. Fletcher is too slow with an awful pass, while Cleverly is simply rubbish
