Managers agree on fair result

Inverness Caley boss John Hughes was left to rue a second-half penalty miss from Nick Ross in the 1-1 draw with Dundee United.

Radoslaw Czerniak saved the spot-kick from Ross that would have given the home team a 2-1 lead, but Hughes felt the result was fair on the balance of play.

And the Caley Thistle boss signalled out Liam Polworth and Graeme Shinnie for their performances, despite both of them playing in unaccustomed roles.

"I thought it was a good football match. It was two good, footballing teams," Hughes said. "We missed the best chance of the game in the penalty, which could have won it for us.

"We rode our luck a wee bit with them hitting the post, but overall was a draw a fair result? Possibly, yes.

"Once again the boys were magnificent. We're a wee bit short on players. We're putting round pegs in square holes, but I thought young Polworth and Shinnie - a left back in midfield - were different class."

United boss Jackie McNamara also felt a point apiece was just about correct from a match that went ahead after referee John Beaton had carried out a precautionary inspection on the pitch following an overnight frost.

McNamara said: "It's one of those games that could have went either way to be honest, so on reflection a draw was a fair result.

"We've hit the post a couple of times, while our goalkeeper has had a fantastic save from the penalty.

"I thought the pitch was very firm. It just seemed firm in certain areas like the goalmouth, but the referee deemed it fine."
