John Ruddy: Battling Birmingham's Jack Butland (left) to be England's No

Ruddy is one of just four English goalkeepers considered as first-choice for Premier League clubs, alongside Manchester City's Joe Hart, Ben Foster of West Bromwich Albion and Reading's Alex McCarthy.

Hart is the undisputed No.1 for his country and, with Foster retired from international football and Under 21 cap McCarthy yet to receive senior recognition, Ruddy is battling Birmingham teenager Jack Butland and Celtic's Fraser Forster to be his understudy.

But Ruddy, 26, does not believe there is a shortage of talent for Roy Hodgson to pick from.

"A lot of people just look at the Premier League and the bigger clubs and say, 'oh there's no England goalkeepers'," he said. "But that's not the case at all.

"There's a lot of good goalkeepers around, like Jack Butland is proving in the Championship and Jason Steele is doing well at Middlesbrough."

Ruddy hopes to be given his chance in Wednesday's friendly against Sweden after keeping three clean sheets in Norwich's last four Premier League games.

He added: "We've got four clean sheets this season already and if we keep clean sheets we will win a lot more games than we draw."
