elpistolero, when the choice is Ashley Young or Stewart Downing, it's a terrible illustration of where English football is at the moment. I also find it sickening that supporters of Chelsea and Liverpool have so much to say about a players conduct. Whilst I agree that Ferdinands behaviour was not becoming of any high profile sportsman in the public eye, people in glass houses, and all that, no?

Is there anyone on this site who has gone through puberty? A man is angry about an awful refereeing decision, displays that. He also trips the shadow of a man that made him look foolish a couple of years ago. The shadow gets up, no harm done. He then gets selected to play for England, due to being the best, currently available, player in his position. That's it. And yet there are people on here ready to combust with rage. What is wrong with you?

Well if Hodgson had to pick a squad only from footballers who were universally liked and had no tendencies towards being d**ks, he wouldn't be able to field eleven men. He's not everyone's cup of tea. Get over it.

Excellent. 'Respect Campaign' Rio is back!! I look forward to seeing his limp wristed clapping in the face of the referee when he doens't get his own way and of course running up behind opposition players and tripping them up. What a legend, so glad he is back !!!

I hope one of the lesser known San Marinoan (is that what they're referred to as?) players trips him from behind, pushes him in the back, and then pretends nothing happened by gesturing "get up" in his direction.

Hope all in the Serravalle Stadium give him a big bendy wristed welcome back round of applause. The wait until he's not looking and shove him over.

Lol at people always looking to 'the future'. Everytime we look to 'the future' another tournament sails past. But its ok, we played a load of players that were 'ones for the future'. That future NEVER arrives so you play the players that are good today! Right now. If Hodgson, who recently beat Brazil, thinks that Rio deserves a recall then I'll go along with that. After all, what are the alternatives? While we are at it, I'd recall Beckham and get rid of 'one for the future' Lennon who is PANTS for England game after game. ("Don't say that, he's one for the future he is, one day he'll win us the world cup." - Will he though?)
