Huddlestone's outstanding recent form - culminating in his first goal in two-and-a-half years in the 6-0 demolition of Fulham on Saturday - has seen him emerge as a potential candidate for an international recall.

Hull boss Steve Bruce believes Huddlestone - who last played for England last November against Sweden - should be in Hodgson's thoughts.

But Huddlestone said: "It's not particularly in my thoughts...obviously Roy Hodgson has said that he's seen everybody who's in contention.

"It would be the icing on the cake, if we stayed up and I managed to get back in the England squad, but first and foremost is getting results like we did against Fulham and staying in the Premier League.

"Forty points is usually the benchmark and we're on 23 now so we're well on course for that. Hopefully we get to that as soon as possible and kick on from there."

Huddlestone's goal saw him receive a pitch-side haircut from physio Rob Price, delivering on a promise not to trim his afro until he found the net.

When he made the pledge, to raise funds for Cancer Research UK, he cannot have envisaged it would be so long coming but is glad to have it out of the way.

"That celebration has been planned for 18 months! It was planned from the beginning of last season and it was just about finding the opportunity to do it.

"I think the physio has cut a little bit too much out though. Obviously I can have it however I want now but it's raised a good bit for the charity, which is the main reason behind it.

"I could do with sorting it out before New Year's Day, but if not then I'll sort it out on the next day off that we get."

e have the personnel. The trick is keeping them fit. Carrick and Blind have missed large chunks of the season, while the defence has been one muddled mess of intermittent stooges, all coming and going at various intervals thus far. We may be just short of title winning quality, but we're half way through. An injury crisis to either of the top two could change things. Optimistic, yes, but not unrealistic.

arish is the man to blame for this shambles. Pulis must be chuckling into his left over turkey sandwich. I pray this doesn't mean the Neil Warnock media machine will kick in now and he'll be back on the telly box.

e almost found a new way to lose, just when I thought it was getting boring Giroud does that. Although Arsenal are deservedly called 'soft' the entire midfield is out injured. Still must admit MU are managing to win despite a similar raft of absentees. Think the Gunners have good players but poorly coached.
