Read between the lines from the people from Manchester. The pain hasn't gone away. 14 trophies in 4 years. what or to whom does he need to prove anything. Not even Ferguson could afford that. No experience but he wacked old Fergie twice in a European cup final.

With the players Barca had, they should have been more successful in the years prior to Pep taking the reins. He simply started playing the Barca philosophy (pass pass cheat dive whinge pass pass). Of course he will be a success at Bayern, it's hard not to be, as they just hoover up the best talent that side of Europe with guaranteed league medals. Next stop will probably be Milan, one they've also sorted out their collection of players into a great squad that he can just play properly. He's a good coach, a good manager, but until he's actually built a team himself or won against the odds, he's not going to be a great.

I probably could have constructed my comment a bit better (I blame it on the lunchtime beer) but it seems you could write this peice for wherever Pep joined. Afterall there is no guarantee for success anywhere and DS picks out some legitimate arguments. However I believe they can all be countered... A Club At The Top - Bayern Munich (or any German team) haven't won the CL since 2001 so German club has been at the top since 2001. Plenty of room for improvement. Pep's Last Season - winning a sh*t load of stuff in your last season, can't see how this will be a barrier to success in future. Foreign Coaches in Bundesliga - there doesn't seem enough examples either way to draw a conclusion from this. The Pressue of Money - This was probably the bit that annoyed me, having to draw your evidence from an article in the Daily Mail claiming there'd be 240m Euros to spend. Admittedly staes it is likely to be wildy inaccurate. Also no one would not have signed Fabregas given the chance. Experience - could be spun either way. I think 2 CL titles anywhere makes up for lack of experience. It didn't stop Mourinho at Chelsea after Porto, or everyone's favourite new manager - M Laudrup in his first season in the Premier League at Swansea.

Enjoyed the article and most of the comments (not sure I agree with @kingofstkilda). I think Pep deserves all the plaudits he gets for taking Barca to where they are now, (Madrid were in the ascendency when he took over) but he has yet to prove he can take that to a new club (duh). That point about taking over a club at the top bothers me, but wish him well as I enjoy watch Barca style (though being a scouser, I'd be happy to see Bayern stay on 4 CL Cups).

I can see Pep shipping out quite a few players that don't mesh with his philosophies (particularly the high work rate and ball chasing around the pitch!), yet I believe he will only sign two or three replacements; considering he likes to work with smaller squads and - as has been pointed out - the Bayern players are already of a very high standard. He probably won't need Lewandowski for his tactics so I don't think that transfer will happen. Besides, there's a LOT of noise going round about Manchester United buying him and when there's this much smoke it's not usually from burnt toast. I'm not sure why Fergie wants him - unless he's selling Chicharito or sending Welbeck back out on loan - but I believe that transfer is the likelier of those two options. The same reasoning would apply for Cavani or Falcao - Pep got burned trying to fit Zlatan into his team so it's pretty unlikely he'll go for a target man, no matter how good he is, and if he does want one he already has Gomez and no way will the board let him buy such players just for other options! I can see him going for Suarez, though. Maybe even David Villa.

I too enjoyed this article as I have been thinking along these lines for a while. I agree that Guardiola is clearly a man with ability but it isn't proven ability. Not by a long shot. He has done well but has had good people and fantastic players around him. Aside from Real Madrid, there is nothing to threaten Barcelona in the league and so efforts in the Champions League, together with a great squad, have been an easy focus. I may be doing him an injustice and he goes on to be the best thing since sliced bread BUT we don't know this yet. Typically Abramovic wanted him as he 'thinks' he will be the be all and end all. Also, he is the fashionable name ATM. It just goes to show his arogance and shortcomings that he would want Guariola just because he can (when in actual fact, he couldn't). Has he made the right choice? Well, we'll soon see but in the meantime he will collect a hefty pay packet. There was talk of him coming to United and I was wary of this step. I'm glad it didn't happen. Let's see how he does and then we will have a better idea of how good he 'really' is. For me, the jury is still out.
