I actually hope Man Utd keep it tight, as I think Real will do the same - and it will become a game of who blinks first. Jose wants Man U to come and play because he knows Madrid can then open them up on the counter whereas he is scared stiff that Man U keep it tight and try to counter them. First goal is vital - hope Man Utd get it, then it will be a brilliant game as Real have to come out - if Real score first, I would fear that ManU come looking for the equaliser and Real hit them hard on the break

God help my poor heart if Rafael or Giggs are put in midfield to keep an eye on Ronaldo. Niether are remotely up to the job. I'd rather play Cleverley and let him sit in a deeper midfield position alongside Carrick, than have Giggs and Rafael chasing shadows all over the pitch. If there is midfielder with the physcial ability to follow a player, it's Anderson, but his tackling is hardly the best. For me it would be better to shut down the space, as opposed to the player.

United did a top job away from home and are in a great position coming into the game, but i do hope United actually try to play some football rather than trying to smother the game again this time.Hopefully home advantage will allow them play a bit more.I think if Real were to score early, United would be forced to open up and we could see one hell of a game.

Very nicely compiled and insightful article. If united are actually going to play a counter game, I dont see why RVP needs to start. Yes, he's supposedly world class (though can't ever see him close to messi/Ronaldo/ inesta etc., just doesn't have the same close control and quick feet), but has struggled recently after the 1st leg. I think those missed chances might cost united in the final assessment, ironic isn't it, considering he was bought for precisely those kind of games. For me Hernandez for all his inability to control the ball and everything is a more potent threat as he has pace and regularly gets into goal scoring positions thanks to his excellent movement. Alas we all know this won't happen.

Ferdinand can't play in midfield and especially can't guard Ronaldo. Pace is needed and Ferdinand has lost most of his. Jones was effective as he sprinted back whenever Real started breaking and hassled the guy with the ball. Ferdinand will play but as a centre back along with Vidic or Evans.

teutonicfaith: I don't think I'll be too upset if it's Ronaldo that puts us out. My fear, though, is that United will concentrate so much on stopping Ronaldo that they get undone by someone like Ozil.

Vidic and Evans at the back with Ferdinand stepping in for Jones and doing the job he did on Ronaldo in the first leg. Yes he's getting on a bit but he is strong enough to stand up to Ronaldo, better in the air than Jones and would arguably be better at intercepting and tackling before Ronaldo can get started on a run with the ball. Whether he would be able to do it for a full 90 is another matter. I actually agree with teutonic here. 2-2 and out on away goals, no shame in that and will be a cracking game to watch, shame I am stuck in a year 8 parents' evening till 9pm. Bastard school kids.

Don't worry lads, I'm here to calm you all down. Everyone is talking about Real and Ronaldo, but I'm the best striker in the world, and I love scoring in a big game, just ask City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs, Everton etc. Scored a few for Arsenal as well. I'll hold my hands up and say I missed a sitter at the Bernabau but nobody's perfect, I'll make up for it tonight. RVP

I think Utd and Real are evenly matched with one exception- Cristiano Ronaldo. Unfortunately, I see him being the difference tonight. We have an excellent team, they have an excellent team, but they also have the best player in the world, Ronaldo- who will score again tonight. My heart says Utd but my head says an entertaining 2-2 draw and an away goals exit. It wouldn't be the end of the world and it wouldn't change the fantastic season we've had, despite the claims that would be made to the contrary if Utd did go out. Nevertheless, I hope Man Utd can win but it will be a very tall order.

Crucial to the result will be how Evra performs. He should have done better for Ronaldo's equalizer in the first leg (he was never going to outjump him but he should have made it more difficult) and is still prone to the odd total dereliction of duty when he fancies going forward. Hopefully Fergie will have slapped that out of him for this match as he'll need to be totally focused on his primary duty.

m starting to think Roman may never actually be happy at the top level. If he wants all conquering fancy football I wonder if he'd be better off buying a lower division side then paying outlandish salaries to attract high caliber players too good for the division.

afa has to be favourite for the Everton job now, surely :) He'll realise his ambition to live and work on Merseyside again, get the best out of whoever plays for them, maybe win some cups and be thoroughly loathed by the toffee fans. What's not to like? Go ead, Ken, gimajob!

hat is arguably the least inspiring England I have ever seen. There is not a single name in that list that makes me think I might actually want to watch this team. Not a one.
