Our friend Alstair Tweedale from WhoScored.com looks at the case of Leon Osman, who makes an impressive 13.1% of Everton's passes. And he likes a shot too...

Proof if ever proof were needed that statistics can be massaged to any extent, even to argue the case for painfully average, one-paced midfielders that occasionally like to scuff a shot in from outside the box, taking half the Goodison turf in with it.

WTF football 365. Who has decided to report that Alstair Tweedales figure of 13.1% is an impressive figure. A dumbwit, and an even dumber dumbwit who okays the dumbwits story ? I'm no great mathematician, but for arguments sake let say the keeper doesn't really pass the ball. That leaves 10 Everton players on the pitch (on a good day !), averaging 10% of passes each. Based on a little research on % action areas, I reckon a midfielder controls the ball in a match a hell of a lot more, at least double the amount of a defender or an attacker, and if I assume an average of 4 midfielders in Evertons team every game then a midfielder will at least supply around 15% of all passes. (based on some rough coeffecients). If 15% is the average, lets say 16.5% would be the max. and 13.% the min. expectation of your average midfielders passing %. Therefore I conclude that Osmans 13.1% rate is actually really really sh*t and I thank Alstair for wasting my time, and you, the readers time. Another absolutely shocking, lazy piece from the media who know nothing about Everton FC. Osman is at best average, at worst totally ineffective. If you look at the chances he has missed this season, it¿s beyond a joke now and if you read some of the Everton websites, you will recognise he is far from a fan favourite. Stick to writing about Liverpool and United, unless you actually want to do some research

Osman's goal against City was lucky, he was swinging a the ball with his bad foot so please stop all the fawning.Osman is a hard working pro who is having a good season but is not top class. He is also 32 this year so is not as if he is the future of England when Gerrard retires

The funny thing is that Mikel Arteta is eligible to play for England if he asked Fifa.

"With the advancing years of England stalwarts Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard, Osman find his chances even greater in the coming months, with Hodgson able to call on him as an ever-reliable option" Mr Osman is a only year younger than Gerrard. Mediawatch alert me thinks.

m absolutely disgusted that I've been misquoted in saying that if a chance came up to join Arsenal I would be interested. What I meant to say is if Man United or Chelsea were interested......

s there a PR agency covering Begovich, Odemwingie, Steven Fletcher and Grant Holt or something? Why would you offer a quote like that without having been announced by either club. #headsshoulderskneesandtoesgone
