Premier League Numbers And Stats

Wayne Rooney has scored or assisted 18 PL goals but only five of those have come against top-eight sides. And Daniel Sturridge is really very good indeed...

@Gab1965, I admire your objectivity, but even I am starting to agree with the Ashley Young witch-hunt these days. He's possibly a perfectly nice guy, and no doubt he's decent (playing for England and Manchester United makes a a shoe-in, surely) but his attitude since signing has been highly questionable. Some players come here at a certain level and continue at that level (Van Persie, Hernandez etc. Other come to a big club and use it as motivation to get better (Vidic, Evra, Ronaldo etc). Young has not made an effort to improve since signing. He's the same player he was when he arrived; inconsistent and furiously limited.

The Ashley Young witchunt shows no sign of dying down. Can't stand his club but even I'm starting to feel sorry for a millionaire with balance issues. I recall him scoring at great goal only a couple of games back. And didn't his club put in 81 crosses at the weekend? So, if he put in 15 of them, who was guilty of the poor crossing (against the 6 foot 7 defender) for the other 66 crosses? Or did they put in a number of outstanding crosses that most of us missed? (including the club's strikers)

What happened to tackles being stupid and a bad part of football? Does this stat mean Matic is not very talented because he wants to win the ball and winning the ball that many times is admitting he's making loads of mistakes?

Congratulations to manu for getting a record this season, maybe they should give them a medal for this, cos its the only one they will be getting this season. Or should the record be for the most crosses which did not contribute a goal? The rooney stat isnt a shock as they have only beaten two teams in the top half of the league.

"Wayne Rooney has scored or assisted 18 PL goals this season but only five of those have come against top-eight sides." Or you could read that as he's had a hand in 5 goals in (say) 10 games. God, he must be RUBBISH. And that's in spite of us being s*** this season...

So 27% of Rooney's goal/assist contribution have come against the strongest 40% of the Premier League, it's hardly meaningful. Surely all players' statistics would be similarly skewed towards scoring more against the teams who do less well, that's why they do less well.

One pass, one clearance, and one mis-control. The old Andy Carroll hat-trick.

Twenty crosses in 34 minutes? My money is on Moyes making a bid for Albrighton...

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

Wenger hails important win

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
