WhoScored's Statistical England Squad...

There's a reason you don't pick an England squad purely on statistical data - you end up with Mark Noble rather than Ross Barkley. WhoScored crunch the numbers...

"Adam Lallana joins him in the squad, having scored nine goals - with only Jay Rodriguez, Eden Hazard and Gerrard of Premier League midfielders this season to have topped that tally" Yaya?

Just goes to show how stupid some stats can be when you include a goalkeeper that has conceded over 40 goals in 20 premiership games. Fairly certain that Gerrard's stats are also fudged as he takes all Liverpool's penalties and set pieces which inflate his contributions. I would not have Huddlestone anywhere near the squad, although I think he has the quality to be a good player, I feel he is lazy and tries to do just enough not to get criticised, if he worked his bollocks off in games, I would have him in the team like a shot, but his attitude towards the game is all wrong. The biggest problem with these 'stats' is they don't include whether these players turned up or not for important games.

I'm 99% sure that Roos Barkely provided the through ball assist for Kevin Mirallas's goal in the 2-3 home defeat to Palace? Though I'm unsure what constitutes an assist these days especially considering the way some Fantasy Leagues dish them out depending on which player it is! Pedantic, I know.

No assist as the ball touches a Palace player on the way through. WhoScored use Opta stats and them's the rules.

But what happens when Baines is injured?

Once again this uses only English Premier League data. would be interested to know Fraser Forster's WhoScored rating. You know, the guy who broke the Scottish (I know!) clean sheet record. Think he might beat Stockdale's 6.68 rating somehow.

@Ezy_Rider - On the contrary, if he'd been playing for Newcastle, he'd probably be in a better position. Anyone who has watched him play regularly this season would know that, although he may not be good enough yet to hold down a regular first-team spot, he is absolutely everything you could possibly want from a squad player. He is versatile, willing to run his legs off in whatever role is asked of him and is actually a very good all-round player. His goalscoring record isn't great but, given how rarely he actually plays as a striker, it really isn't that bad when you're comparing it to the likes of Lambert and Carroll

Alternatively, looking at stats might reveal something an inherent snobbiness (mine as much as anyones) hides? eg I'm certain that if Welbeck was playing for, say, Newcastle rather than Man United, he'd be banned from airports this summer just to be on the safe side, never mind discussing whether he should be On The Plane

e made his power play to try and get Sheikhy to raise his wages or trade him to PSG. PSG were probably not interested and he is stuck with no cake and no vacation. @Jay_D> Surely you jest about FFP being real, right? All Platini is doing is making billionaries pay measly fines, so he and his cronies can get rich. If a fool can pay 50 mil for David Luiz, he will happily pay some fine to UEFA. FFP has failed as for it to succeed UEFA had to take it...
