Chelsea Still Have Plenty To Fight For...

A good end to a difficult week should see the focus at Chelsea change from Rafa Benitez's immediate future to what can be achieved over the rest of the season...

@polaknuar - You seem to have answered it most satisfactorily.

Tedmaul, I think your question might just be a little too deep for us simpletons. I'd like to think it tells us that a) Chelsea were not very good Champions of Europe and got found out this season, or b) they were half decent Champions of Europe, but absolute turds in the league and have improved on that front (and, whilst not up to much, are not quite as rubbish as they once were). Then there is c) where City got a bit lucky last year, because the opposition didn't turn up (analogous to the 'everyone else is mediocre' we keep hearing on F365 this year to explain United's success). Or perhaps even d) - United have a very good side this year (the author alludes to this when he says they would always be hard to catch - although this is confusing bearing in mind the 'mediocre oppo' party line). Anyway, I think I know which I prefer, but please do enlighten us...

@crackerjackred - banners and fanbases are contrived by their very nature. Unless you have spontaneous banners at your club?

Chelsea fans disguising their A4s by pasting them on cardboard. Nice. "never wanted rafa out!"?

You're trying to talk sense into a brick wall. The Chelsea fans will continue to harass and attack Benitez for as long as he's manager. It's not Rafa's fault he got hired by Roman Abramovich, but don't expect the Chelsea A4 gang to produce banners criticizing the Oligarch for his bizarre decision making any time soon. Clueless.

Why is it not ok to protest by printing A4 banners? I wasn't aware you needed to spend and invest money to make individual voices important.

@wozza - good point. Champions of England and Champions of Europe both woefully inferior to a team that won nothing last year. What does that tell us??!!

Even the banners (can we call them that?) are as bog-standard and contrived as Chelsea fan base.

m absolutely disgusted that I've been misquoted in saying that if a chance came up to join Arsenal I would be interested. What I meant to say is if Man United or Chelsea were interested......

s there a PR agency covering Begovich, Odemwingie, Steven Fletcher and Grant Holt or something? Why would you offer a quote like that without having been announced by either club. #headsshoulderskneesandtoesgone
