An Ominously Familiar German Knockout Performance

Germany have been roundly criticised over the last week, but against France they were ominously recognisable. Die Maschine has clicked into knockout stage mode...

Its ironic. I was commenting to my friend that France was winning the midfield battle and controlling the game, when German win that free kick and score. As soon as the goal went in, the game changed. German then sat back, defended as a unit and looked to break and suddenly their midfield started dominating the French midfield, who were suddenly under pressure to create a goal, rather than just play their natural game and hence they withered under the pressure.

Sadly the game didn't live up to the hype. There was lot of disjointed play, not enough creativity and the touch of magic was missing. Germany basically just did enough to progress. With Neymar's injury and Thiago Silva being out of the Semifinals, they should beat a very average Brazil and await their finals opponent.

Germany should've taken a recognised striker to the World Cup - a punt on Kiessling or permanently injured Mario Gomez. Low's just realised that his Barcelonification of the national team isn't working, so now he's reverted to type, but the squad is unbalanced. Also I didn't think they were as dominant as the article makes out - France applied quite a bit of pressure in the second half, and if Benzema had taken one of those chances, it could've been different. All that said I hope they smash the premadonas of Brazil in the semi. I want to see David Luiz crumple to the ground in despair.

Ruthless Germany. Looked so much better with Klose up front, although he had a stinker and spent much of the game looking for ants in the grass. Pogba was not the man for the big occasion and was left chasing Shadows and waving his hands in the air. Hopefully the German machine rumbles over the samba boys now into the final.

wonder if he'd feel the same way if he wasn't a white, non-jewish heterosexual male. Because Mackay has basically insulted everyone else!
