Rovers moved level on points with league leaders Tranmere after overcoming Latics in midweek, a result that left Dickov's men 16th in the table.

Corney has publicly criticised Oldham for below-par performances this term, most notably after their derby defeat to Bury earlier this month, and insists a cup run is required to salvage the campaign.

"I don't want to insult anyone's intelligence," he told the Oldham Chronicle. "Clearly, we don't have the consistency to get near the top six - the only thing consistent about our season is our inconsistency.

"So let's be realistic. A cup run helps keep our season and the goodwill going. It is huge for us. I am looking for the players to be fired up and to give it absolutely everything."

He added: "I heard we more than matched Doncaster (on Tuesday night). They have two of their big players missing on Saturday and we are at home. So there are no excuses."
