Boundary Park: Ticketing drama for cup tie

Paul Dickov's men secured the plum tie with Liverpool following a shock 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest at the weekend and welcome Brendan Rodgers' men to Boundary Park for a televised clash on Sunday, January 27.

Under FA rules, visiting supporters are entitled to 15 per cent of a ground's capacity but Corney claims Liverpool fans will be given 2,500 tickets - almost a quarter of Latics' three-sided 10,638-seater stadium.

"Every seat we have to hand over to Liverpool will be done begrudgingly and under duress," he told the Manchester Evening News. "If it was down to me I would make sure we give every ticket to a Latics fan.

"The police will have their say and they will tell us there will be 2,500 Liverpool fans in that ground. And do we want the publicity of trouble in front of national cameras?

"The rules are 15 per cent but there are a lot of other factors that take it out of our hands. The FA are in effect leasing our stadium and telling us what to do with it.

"You wouldn't believe how many seats we have to give away."

Additionally, Corney ruled out the idea of erecting temporary seating on the Broadway side of Boundary Park, which has been vacant since the Lookers Stand was demolished in 2008.
