Kee grabbed the equaliser in the original tie and was the hero again in the replay when he struck in the 24th minute.

Rowett said: "I can be harsh on Billy at times but I know what he's got in his locker and I thought we saw that with the way he took his goal."

Kee's fourth goal in as many games and his eighth of the season came when he turned on the edge of the box to fire into the bottom corner.

Burton were unable to add to their lead but Rowett was impressed with what he saw from his side, who have won four of their last six games by a 1-0 margin.

He said: "That's probably as good as we've played at home this season.

"We knew we had to step things up and couldn't sit in like we did at Fleetwood and I thought we did it with some real verve.

"The front two (Kee and Rene Howe) were really lively and all over the park I thought we were excellent.

"If you look back to last season, there were a lot of games when the game wasn't over even if we were 3-0 up with 15 minutes to go.

"But this season I'm really pleased with the professional way we've gone about our business."

resumably, you wanted to keep the version of Downing that was never seen at Anfield. The one that another manager has managed to re-create. The one you passed over.

he uber commercialisation of the 90s has led to the point where this overly familar, try hard, jolly hockey sticks type fronts up a major football match on a weekly basis. Unlike the great presenters of yesteryear, I doubt he would even recognise the scent of Brut.
