Gibbs was a substitute in the semi-final shoot-out win over Championship Wigan, when Arsenal's exuberant celebrations suggested they do not see the trophy as a consolation prize.

And that impression has been confirmed by Gibbs, who is expected to start at left-back at Wembley as Arsene Wenger's side aim to end a nine-year spell without a trophy of any kind.

He said: "It's massive, we take all competitions seriously.

"At the end of your career you want to look back on what you've won and this is a chance to look back on what has been a good season and say - yes - we managed to win the FA Cup."

Arsenal finished the season with their highest points total since 2008 but faded from the title race in the spring as injuries and poor results against their top-four rivals took a toll.

Gibbs said: "It's been a positive season for us. Even though we finished fourth we've finished higher than we did last year in terms of points.

"But a trophy would add an extra positive feel to our season. I feel like the boys have given everything they have this season and we want to finish off strongly. I feel like the team deserve to finish the season in a good positive way.

"When I play on the pitch I feel like this team is the best that I've played in for a long time.

"I feel there's a good balance and there's just a strong desire to win every game, everyday coming in and training. Everything is 100%."
