Good Question
Why do people stand outside the grounds waiting for players to arrive or, in the case of Spurs fans last night, not arrive on transfer window deadline day. At Spurs there were adults, not teenagers or kids, just stood in the cold waiting for no-one to turn up. Meanwhile over at Stoke we had people desperate to see Brek Shea turn up. No offence to Brek and he may well turn into the next Messi but is he really worth standing in the cold for around 6 hours until midnight to see drive in and then drive out again? If you were there last night please can you write in and let me know why!

Also speaking of Brek, it was nice to see a song was being sung for him but a word of advice, if you have to change the way a word sounds to make the song work then it's not a good song!....."Brek Shea, whoooaho, Brek Shea, whoooaho, he came from USA, to play for Stoke Cit-a"

Nacho Highlights Wenger's Failings
As a Gooner the signing of Nacho greatly troubles me.

It's not I'm afraid the boy won't succeed at Arsenal - it's more what this means for Santos. Lest we forget Santos was signed along with Park Chu Young and Per Mertesacker in order to bolster an Arsenal team languishing in the nether regions of the Premier League.

That was barely 18 months ago and in that period Park has been shunted off to Spain and now it looks like Santos's Arsenal career is over - so just Mertersacker has delivered any meaningful return on the initial outlay.

What's worrying is Wenger saw fit to part with the club's money to bring these players in and now Santos it seems will join the likes of Arshavin, Djourou, Denilson, Bendtner, Squilacci, Chamakh and Park Chu Young all paid by Arsenal to deliver what exactly?

Of all the figures bearing a squad number at the Emirates the Gunnersaurus appears to contribute more. One wonders if you combined half the wages of all these players and offered it to Robin Van Persie whether it would have been enough to entice him to remain at the club. I guess we'll never know and no longer does Arsene it seems.

You Don't Mess With Peace
Well as the dust settles on last night's farce and the last week as a whole I can honestly say I'm pretty proud to be a West Brom fan right now. Yes we may currently be terrible and have not brought anyone in over the window but last night we took a stand against the greed culture of modern football.

Chairman Jeremy Peace has said that by the end not selling Odemiwingie was a matter of principal. In refusing to bow to player pressure we've shown that contracts do mean something and players cannot simply walk off at the first opportunity. Yes, PO might sulk for a while and will not doubt be shipped out quietly in the summer but for now we have won. We have sent a clear message out that we as a club will not be bullied, neither by our own players or by other, wealthier clubs. Why should we sell if the deal is not right for us? It's not our business to help QPR out, or get Odemwingie a bigger move.

In sacrificing a short term profit (that we would never have been able to spend anyway) for the moral high-ground I'm sure that we'll be in a much stronger position long-term. I just hope that we take things further and report both QPR and their manager to the FA for their role in this mess. It was they who unsettled him in the first place, and I cannot believe he drove all the way down to London on his own accord, someone must have had a word in his ear.

As for Odemwingie himself? Well it's easy to condemn and state he'll never play again, but football is a fickle business as Carlos Tevez will testify. I expect over the coming days there'll be full and frank apologies to the fans, management and his fellow players, an announcement that he's sacked his advisors and a commitment to getting his head down and working for the rest of the season. He has been a silly, silly boy and should be punished accordingly, he's been led astray by bad advice and dodgy Cocknies. But no relationship in football is ever irrevocably damaged, he's going to have to work pretty damn hard to win us back though.

...I'm sure you'll have dozens of emails about the actions of Peter Odemwingie and his rise to prominence as the epitome of all that is wrong with modern footballers.

I'm sure many contributors will also try to make some ill-judged comparison between Odemwingie's sojourn to London and the philanthropic actions of Mr David Beckham.

But all I have to say on the subject is this, you don't f**k with Jeremy Peace, if he don't want to sell, he won't sell. I'm sure there's a lesson somewhere in there for the Arsenal board.

Pricey Workout
So Chris Samba is on £100k a week but by his own admission isn't in great shape and will take 2-3 weeks to get fit. That's £200-300k just to work out. QPR are the biggest losers.

Credit To Beckham
I seriously don't get what's wrong with people. David Beckham joins PSG, donates all his earnings to a childrens hospital and gets to play in the Champions League again. Everyone's happy, right? WRONG!

"He is just doing it for the attention", "He is finished as a player" and more stupid comments overflowed on Twitter and in the media yesterday. I'm sorry, but why so negative? As I see it, everybody wins here:

1: PSG gets an experienced player
2: Lique 1 gets even more attention
3: Beckham gets to play for a good team again and in the CL
4: A lot of children will benefit from this

Who loses out? No one! Why do we have to see everything that Beckham does as a marketing ploy or as a part of some grand scheme to take over the world? I'm pretty confident that he doesn't need more attention or money, and that he wants to play football.

Hating Beckham
I seriously hate him. I have always thought he is a mediocre footballer who is quite good looking and married to a spice girl and...well that is it. He broke my heart by ruining France 98 for us and he played for Man United. I hate the way his name appears everywhere I go when Zidane, the trully great player of Beckham's heyday, is famous for heatbutting a prat. I have been fortunate to travel quite a bit and even in the most remote corners of the planet, once you reveal your nationality the one word that is guarrateed to be parroted back at you is 'Beckham' or maybe 'Becks'. The most sophisticated will add 'posh' on there somewhere. It really annoys me that this is Briatin's greatest export of the past 20 years.

These are not the real reasons I hate him, though. It is his constant need to make me look bad about this irrational distaste. He always seems to be the best Dad imaginable (I know you're getting annoyed) and comes across as nice, polite and down to earth (moron). It is made out we are bullying 'the lad from Leytonstone' (I am about to vomit in my mouth).

Now he goes and gives his entire salary to a children's charity. It has me positively seething with rage. When will the world see him for what he is! A man that has made it seem I have a problem with vulnerable children. ARRGGHHHHH

...I've always been bothered by the media circus that follows David Beckham. The reason being is that to somebody not familiar with football you would swear Beckham is the best player of all time...it really gets to me on a level I can't explain nor can I explain why it grates me so much.

Don't get me wrong he was a very good footballer with a fantastic right foot, but he wasn't fast, couldn't dribble, he really wasn't my type of player. I could name about 50 players from his era off the top of my head who I would prefer...players who didn't get a one billionth the coverage of Beckham but were in my eyes superior footballers.

Does anyone else feel this way or do Mailboxers feel he actually deserves the adulation he gets and should be up there with the Zidanes, Figo's, Rivaldo's, the real Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Henry as the absolute best players of their generation?

Wenger To Become Head Of FIFA
So I have been pondering this for a while, but the current state of play at Arsenal and generally in football has led me to think. Let's let Wenger go, let him fly away from here and stop ruining the reputation of one of the finest managers to grace the English game, by complaining that he never spends money, and calling for his head when we have a bad game.

But can we let him take over from either Blatter or Platini and just fix football. Fix this mess of mental spending, billionaires and transfer window madness. Put teams back on equal footing and not being dependent on who has the biggest sugar daddy. It's a genuine worry about what will happen to these clubs if their billionaires get bored. QPR are the easiest example to take here, we all know it... if they go down, they are ruined! The amount of money spent on samba alone is way too much for a championship club to support!

I'm sure the answers are there in that brain of his. He occasionally lets some slip out in interviews. Only 2 signings in January... brilliant. I just feel like he is the only man in world football bothered enough by it all to do things about it. I have always felt that about Arsene, he just wants things to be fair and do things right, and the club is suffering a little for that. But rather than the if you can't beat em join em approach and going out and spunking cash all over the place, lets just let the man who only plays fair be the ref.
