Financial doping would suggest cheating. Spending money that you have earned through success (rather than have been gifted by an owner) is surely not the same.

I think there's a flip-side to the licensing side of management: even professional footballers hardly work 40h weeks like the rest of us, how long can it take, train 2 hours, have a massage, some tactics etc, maybe 5h a day? Given the spare time and income professional footballers enjoy, surely having a private teacher/tutor is and getting the correct qualifications is such a big push for someone serious about becoming a manager, coach, or.. player/manager?

It hasnt gone out fashion at all, football has just evolved. 60 games a season, far more tactical and technical analysis etc just makes it impossible for someone to do both
